For the last few years I’ve had the same Monday through Friday morning routine. I would get up and before I heated my tea kettle or had my orange juice, I turned on my TV and tuned it to Classical Stretch on the Create Channel. WMHT, which is my local Public Broadcasting Station, would break into the normal Create schedule to air this wonderful show. Sometimes I actually would do the workout, but mostly I watched it while having my breakfast. I’d pick up tips listening to Miranda Esmonde-White describe the exercises, and how she did the workouts. This really helped me become a better ESSENTRICS® instructor.
But on Friday, 11/2/18, my pleasant morning routine was derailed, 7:30 rolled around but there was no Miranda. She had been replaced by Christopher Kimball and his latest cooking show. I’m a fan of Mr. Kimball, but there are lots of cooking shows on Create and only one show with Miranda and ESSENTRICS®. I immediately contacted WMHT to let them know that I missed Classical Stretch and that many of my students did as well.
I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one that was confused and upset by this change. Turns out WMHT had a change of heart and in a little over a week, Classical Stretch was back on. And now we have two episodes every morning, one at 7:00am and a different episode at 7:30am!
The workouts Miranda does in her TV shows are around 25 minutes long, as opposed to the 50 minute classes that I teach at the studio. There’s nothing better than a live class, still, in those 25 minutes you will get a total body workout and a stimulating way to start your day. Each episode focuses on a different fitness goal, but still lengthens, strengthens, and re-balances every muscle in your body.
Now I have a new routine, I watch the first episode to pick up tips and then do the workout during the second one. I’m sure some of you think I’m crazy for adding this morning workout to my busy schedule. To be honest, I really do feel better when I do these short workouts. It’s just enough to get me moving without overdoing it.
I also found out that Aging Backwards 2 is going to air throughout this month and next on WMHT. I’m anxious to see what new information Miranda Esmonde-White will share about keeping our bodies healthy and fit.
