This year I’m really behind in my holiday shopping. And usually by this time I’ve posted an entry about gift ideas for dancers. There’s still time, so here goes.
I previously posted about two dance books: Dancing Through It: My Journey in the Ballet, by Jenifer Ringer and Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland. I did read both of these during 2014 and would highly recommend them. They are both inspirational and show different struggles that these professional dancers had to overcome. Another dance book that was published in October 2014 is Taking Flight: From War Orphan by Michaela DePrince. In this engaging, moving, and unforgettable memoir, Michaela shares her dramatic journey from an orphan in West Africa to becoming one of ballet’s most exciting rising stars.
Dance this Notebook!: Moving with Your Creativity contains dance drawings by visual artist Laura Higgins Palmer are paired with thought provoking adages by performing artist Janaea Rose Lyn to create a beautiful journal. I received it as a gift and love it!
If you are looking for a fun stocking stuffer, try buttons with unique dance sayings. One of my students purchased a bunch of them and handed them out at class. I wear mine on one of my workout sweatshirts.
There is nothing better than tickets to a dance performance. For those of you in the Capital Region, The Egg has two dance performances coming up in early 2015: Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company on January 31st and Tango Buenos Aires on February 11th . And Shaping Sound is coming to Proctors on February 12, 2015.
Dance Christmas ornaments are also another option. I’ve acquired quite a collection over the years (some of them are captured in the photograph above) and remember who each one was from.
This isn’t a long list, but you can always look back at my suggestions for 2012 and 2013. Now I better do some shopping myself!
