My mother and I chatted about dance when we got together for Mother’s Day. She was excited to hear about all the class offerings and events at Albany Dance & Fitness. I owe a lot to my mother, because she is the one that drove me to many dance classes, rehearsals, and performances when I was young. She even worked at the ballet studio to help pay for classes!
I started teaching adult ballet classes when I was in high school and Mom participated in those first classes. She still tells everyone that I taught her ballet and that was many years ago.
Mom has always loved to dance and to watch dance performances. She now gets her dance fix at square dances. I’ve gone to some of the events to see her, but we don’t get to visit much. Unless there is a break, she doesn’t sit at all. Somehow she always finds a partner to dance with and she dances every single dance!
I’m glad that Mom continues to dance in her eighties! It’s great exercise and is also a great way for her to keep her mind sharp. As I watched the square dances, I realized that you have to listen to the call, remember what it means, and then execute the step. It’s not that the steps are difficult, but you have to move right away.
I’m sure that Mom would enjoy taking classes at Albany Dance & Fitness. She doesn’t live close by, so it looks like I’ll have to plan a field trip so that she can take my Gentle Ballet class!
