The Capital Region usually has to wait until summer to see the New York City Ballet (NYCB), but this week we will be treated to classes, lectures and a performance by some of the dancers from NYCB.
The trigger for this was a performance commissioned by the Capital Region Dance Alliance. This very special performance will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 5:30pm at Skidmore College’s Zankel Theatre. The performance includes two pieces choreographed by up and coming choreographer and NYCB dancer Justin Peck. The evening also includes a piece choreographed by DebraJ. Fernandez, Skidmore College Dance Department Chair, and the well-known Apollo, choreographed by George Balanchine. Dancers from NYCB will perform in all of these pieces and music will be played by the Hyperion String Quartet.
In addition to the performance two of the dancers, Andrew Scordato and Abi Stafford will give a talk at the Saratoga Springs Public Library on Tuesday, 10/16/2012, 12:30 – 1:30pm. This talk is open to the public and is free of charge.
For those that would like to dance with the dancers, several teen/adult ballet classes are being offered in the area:
