What will the new “Saratoga Dances” ballet look like? On Sunday, March 20th we get to see a sneak preview at the Saratoga Dances event. Justin Peck, choreographer, and Andrew Scordato, costume designer, will be there to discuss their vision. Both, who are dancers with the New York City Ballet, will also teach master ballet classes that day. The classes will allow the public to participate as either students or observer and will educate the community about the ballet’s movement style and choice of music.
What an exciting project! The ballet, which was commissioned by the Capital District Dance Alliance, will celebrate the uniqueness of Saratoga Springs and its longtime commitment to the arts. Costumes will incorporate historic horse racing silks as a fashion motif and will involve collaboration with the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga. The piece will debut on June 10, 2011 at Skidmore College and members of the New York City Ballet are slated to perform.
I can’t wait to learn more about the creative process and what these two young dancers have in mind. For more information about the event, go to www.dancealliance.org.
