I recently received a letter from The Egg, stating that “the dance program at The Egg faces some formidable, challenges in order to remain viable.” Of course funding is always a challenge, but more important is the fact that audience participation has decreased.
The Egg has always presented an amazing season so I would hate to see it go. It reminds me of what Saratoga Performing Arts Center had to deal with a few years ago when there were threats that New York City Ballet would not return. Hopefully area dance enthusiasts can pull together and show that The Egg dance program is important.
The Egg has an exciting dance program set for this year, so please try to take advantage of it. In addition to the performances, the Capital District Dance Alliance offers pre-performance talks at 7:15 for all dance performance ticket holders.
The next dance performance at The Egg is Rioult: The Company, which is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2010 at 8pm. The Rioult ompany is also offering a free lecture demonstration at the Dance Studio, Visual Arts Builcding, Union College on Thursday, October 21, 6:30-8pm.
The line-up for the rest of The Egg’s 2010-2011season is the following:
Bellydance Superstars, 11/19/10
Ellen Sinopoli, 1/21/11
Tango Fire, 2/4/11
Russian National Ballet, 3/18/11
Paul Taylor, 4/16/11
