While I was in NYC this past weekend, I got to see the Broadway play Billy Elliot – The Musical. The play is still in previews and doesn’t open until November. It was enjoyable, but I didn’t walk away with that “wow” feeling.
However, the two young actors, David Alvarez (Billy) and Frank Dolce (Billy’s friend Michael), were fabulous. I couldn’t believe the level of their dancing. The other young performers also did a great job.
The part of older Billy Elliot was played by Stephen Hanna, former principal dancer with New York City Ballet. I expected more from him and was disappointed that he only danced in one number. He did a fine job, but it seemed like he was out of shape.
All in all, it was a fun evening. It has made me want to see the movie again.
