It snowed Friday night and there was concern that the Dance+18 Festival at Skidmore College would not be held. But the weather cleared up and I along with over one humdred other dance & fitness lovers attended the event.
The Balletone class was quite the workout. Kathleen Riley used some of the choreography that will be in the new Balletone dvd that is soon to be released. She provided me with the chorography, so I will be sure to incorporate it into class this week.
It was tough to figure out what to take the second session, but I opted for the Begineer Ballet class with Peter Naumann. Peter danced with NYCB during the 70’s. It turns out that it wasn’t really a beginning class and was lots of fun. He shared some stories about Balanchine and ended class by saying that we should just enjoy class and not be embarrassed.
I wondered what Standing Pilates would be like. I must say that I’m really sore! Kathleen Riley mixed up the class – all standing pilates would be too tough. So, we did mat work and then she showed how you would work the same area using the standing exercises.
There was quite a variety of excellent dance & fitness classes offered at the event. If you didn’t make it this year, be sure to catch it next year!
